New Moon in Sagittarius
New moon | SagitTarius | Dec. 19, 2025
As fate would have it, our final new moon of 2025, the year of the Snake and the 9 year, brings us the energy of revisiting the past, clearing and healing old wounds, and letting go. This entire year has been a year of clearing. Numerologically, 2025 is a 9 year, meaning a year of closing cycles, completions, and endings. The energy of the snake adds in the medicine of transformation — this year has been all about shedding skins and releasing everything that is not meant to come with us in this next cycle.
As we round out the calendar year, we have one final new moon in Sagittarius, and while new moons usually spark new beginnings and the start of a new cycle, this new moon is more about healing, letting go of old beliefs, and a final clearing before we step into 2026, a 1 year and year of the Horse.
Let’s explore the chart:
The new moon comes in at 28 degrees of Sagittarius. The archetype of Sag is all about the discovery and quest for Truth, through embodied wisdom and lived experience. There is something this new moon wants to reveal to us, a deeper truth, especially around the challenges, healing, letting go, and processes we’ve undergone during 2025.
Unfortunately, the major aspects being made to the moon are both challenging ones. The new moon is squared by both Saturn and Neptune. These two squares add dimension to the wisdom, clarity, revelation and knowledge we are seeking to uncover.
A square from Saturn adds an element of seriousness to whatever we are coming to terms with. Saturn can feel heavy, harsh, and intense. This is likely an uncomfortable truth. One that will require a new commitment to discipline, integrity, and discernment moving forward. One that is also important for the realization of our long term goals, plans, and dreams.
A square from Neptune, on the other hand, brings a fog of confusion. The shadow of Neptune is deception, illusion, distortion, and things not being as they seem. If something feels too good to be true under this new moon, it probably is. A square from Neptune is an important warning to be mindful of illusions and rose-coloured glasses. If something (or someone) from the past is re-emerging, or something new is entering your field with a proposal or offering that feels like a fantasy, it probably is. This is especially important to pay attention to surrounding relationships, since Venus is sitting very close to the new moon.
This new moon is an important reflection point to pay attention to where you have fallen into patterns of self betrayal in the past, especially if this is a theme you have been clearing this year. The new moon might offer one final test or opportunity to see this pattern in action, and to embody a wiser approach moving forward. If you have spent the year of the snake uncovering the shadows of you relationship dynamics, the ways you have consciously or unconsciously chosen illusion over reality, if you have been learning discernment, reciprocity, and to hold your value instead of chasing love or approval — this new moon offers a deepening of the wisdom of that lesson.
The wisdom that is emerging amidst this new moon is an uncomfortable awakening, but it brings insight that is essential for claiming your destiny and moving towards it. This is because Mercury, the messenger and planet of mind, insight, and awareness, is in a T-square to the nodes in this chart. Mercury who has just (finally) emerged from post-shadow of a very intense and insightful retrograde. Mercury who rules the current South Node, bringing us deeper awareness around the karmic cycles we are releasing. A T-square to the nodes is a pressure point that activates both the past and the future. Mercury is challenged to embody a deeper wisdom, a refined and purified state of MIND — a new belief that will allow us to move towards where we are headed.
The entire chart works heavily on our belief systems. While the South Node is in Virgo, the lower states of the mind are being asked to go through a purification and alchemical process. This includes small-mindedness, control, over-thinking, anxiety, judgement, self-criticism, perfectionism, and spiralling thoughts. As we purify these ego-driven mental behaviours, we create space to embody a higher trust and wisdom of the North Node in Pisces, which invites us into a bigger picture perspective. In Pisces, we trust life and the unfolding of the divine plan of our lives, and we let go of our ego’s desire to control outcomes.
Our belief systems, especially our spiritual beliefs, are essential to this process, and our spiritual beliefs are ruled by Sagittarius. This new moon brings us face to face with the false and ungrounded spiritual escapism (Saturn square) that can tempt us into a fantasy land of avoidance and spiritual bypass. We are confronting the illusions and distortions that have kept us stuck in victim consciousness. We are asked to embody discernment and integrity in our values and beliefs, while not falling into the trap of over-analysis and mistrust of life and Spirit.
To deepen these themes even further, the ruler of the new moon is Jupiter, and as we know, Jupiter has been in an ongoing square with Chiron. In this chart, the square is passing through another exact aspect, intensifying the energy of the square. Jupiter squared by Chiron is about magnifying a core wound, and feeling it deeply. With Jupiter, the wound is made so big, it’s impossible to ignore it. And in Cancer, Jupiter is feeling all the feels about it.
This new moon is an opportunity to, yet again, face the wound, and come out bearing medicine to share. Again the theme of revelation and acquiring of deeper wisdom feels relevant here. Jupiter square Chiron is salt in the wound. It’s a healing process that is inviting us to feel things all the emotions surrounding it, and let it go so we can move forward.
This time of year in general, with Solstice approaching and the darkest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, is an important time for internal reflection and going inward. Spending some time over the next few days reflecting on the lessons learned, perspectives gained, and new insights and beliefs that are percolating within you is a powerful way to close this year and cycle.
The year of the snake has been a potent time of shedding and clearings. This new moon offers a final reflection, an opportunity to notice and bring consciousness to any lingering distortions, an invitation to feel and heal the wounds that are surfacing, and a closure of the patterns we are not bringing with us into 2026. This new moon is the final threshold of that closure.
Sending big love and new moon blessings,
Hannah
