New Moon in Gemini
New Moon | Gemini | May 26, 2025
The new moon came in last night, but I am writing to you today, because in all honesty, every time I tried to sit down yesterday and feel into the energy of this new moon… I was drawing a blank.
I don’t believe in forcing my communications to you, or writing from a place of obligation. I aim to write to you from my soul. Astrology is half science — reading and interpreting the transits, and half soul — feeling the energy and influence of the planets and letting the energy speak through me.
It wasn’t until the new moon hit at almost midnight last night, that I truly FELT the energy of this one. Learning the power of pausing when we don’t have something of clarity to articulate (rather than filling the space — a space that is already so full of every passing thought being expressed online) is a honing and a refinement of our communication.
A purification of Mercury; ruler of the mind, thoughts, and expression. That purification is exactly what this new moon is all about.
——
The new moon comes in at 6 degrees of Gemini and is conjunct it’s ruler Mercury. Mercury — the master of the mind.
Mercury is going through a major revelation journey with this new moon. Let’s talk about why.
Last weekend, we received a flash of insight and a new perspective was revealed. Uranus made conjunction with the sun, bringing a paradigm shifting awareness to the surface. We cannot unsee what Uranus revealed to us a week ago. Then this weekend, Mercury passed by Uranus, further deepening our conscious awareness of the shift that was revealed.
And now, Mercury, ruler of the new moon — but also ruler of the south node (currently in Virgo) — is receiving an upgrade.
New moons are new beginnings, and with the new moon in Gemini, we are invited to broaden our mindset, shift our viewpoint, and consider things from a new angle. Gemini is the sign of duality, where there is always another perspective we can take to lighten our mental load.
Since Mercury is also the ruler of the south node in Virgo, Mercury and our minds are moving through a purification process at this time. The mindsets that keep us stuck and looping, the limiting beliefs, the fear based perspectives, the parts of us that seek control through preparation and perfection… all of these are being cleared and cleaned up. We are asked to individually examine the shadows we hold in our minds and the ways we communicate and express.
With the moon making positive aspect to most outer planets, the perspective shift we have the potential to claim with this new moon is an uplifting one. Perhaps we realize that the binds that keep us caged exist primarily in our own minds, we hold the keys to the cage of our thoughts.
Just as importantly, and happening concurrent with this new moon (but a long lasting energy that will move with us through the rest of this year and into next) is Saturn conjunct Neptune.
At the rebirth portal of the zodiac wheel, the early degree of Aries, Saturn (who entered Aries this weekend — welcome to your Saturn return those with natal Saturn in Aries) meets up with Neptune.
Neptune has been purifying and awakening to the illusions, distractions, evasion and escapism she soaked in during her transit through Pisces. Aries is a sobering wake up call. And now with Saturn in the picture, there is a humility we will need to reckon with, both personally and collectively.
Saturn and Neptune together come with both a warning and an invitation. The warning is to be mindful of how we allow the harsh realities of this world and the restrictions we feel imposed upon us to crush our dreams. Saturn is restrictive, serious, and can really put a damper on things.
Saturn also asks us to get serious. On the bright side, this transit invites us to commit, in real, tangible and devotional ways to the hard work that building our dreams requires of us all. Neptune offers us the inspiration, the potential and the possibility. Saturn wants us to make it real.
This energy will bring an important wake up call to those stuck in spiritual disassociation. Avoiding, escaping, and numbing to the harsh realities of our world is not spiritual practice, it is spiritual bypass.
If your spirituality has you stuck in another dimension where only love and light are real — but you also can’t bear to face the very real pain, devastation, genocide, death, destruction of nature, oppression of women… this is avoidance wrapped in spiritual language. If your spirituality makes you numb to the realities of life around you, unable to connect with your family or those you disagree with, in an echo chamber, or repeatedly seeking peak experiences… this is disassociation.
I say this with so much love and humility for the ways I have also numbed, escaped, and run away from harshness. Shadow work is essential. True spirituality brings you more in touch with the pain and the joy that is inherent in this human experience. It brings you deeper into your devotion to be of service to all beings. It brings you deeper into your heart, your body, and your inherently impermanent nature.
All of the ways you are lying to yourself will be revealed under this transit. And within that revelation, an opportunity presents itself to step into co-creation with the infinite realms of Neptune and the grounded stability of Saturn. We are building a new dream. One that requires our utmost presence and perseverance. One that cannot be achieved through bypass and escape, but only through the hard work that Saturn requires.
Let the dream hold you and inspire your vision.
Let the discipline of devotion to that dream inspire your follow through.
True spirituality is always and forever, an integration of both.
New moon blessings,
Hannah
